The Oklahoma
Federation of Families for Youth and Children's Mental Health seeks
to end the isolation and stigma associated with emotional,
behavioral or mental disorders in children by empowering their
families and caregivers to advocate for the removal of barriers to
effective treatment and support.
Our Mission
The Oklahoma
Federation of Families for Youth and Children's Mental Health
provides education, information and support to families and
caregivers of children and youth with emotional, behavioral or other
mental health related issues.
Family Support Group (a
definition): a relational association of parents and caregivers who
meet regularly for assistance, comfort, education, and encouragement.
Parents and caregivers of emotionally and
behaviorally disturbed children often feel isolated, inadequate, and frustrated. They need support from other family members who are dealing
with similar issues. They need a place they can go to find answers and get
a dose of hope and encouragement.
Our staff is committed to
helping communities across Oklahoma develop support groups for families dealing
with children who have emotional and behavioral health issues. We offer a
variety of services based on the communities need.
Here's How We Can Help
Meet with interested group organizers
to develop a start-up plan.
Lead a group evaluation process to
help groups find ways to improve their group.
Serve as speakers or facilitators to
help address specific topics.
We want to start a family support
group in our community. What do we do first?
That's easy. You
contact us. We can't start the group for you, but we can sit down
with you and help you design a plan.
We have a support group now, but
it's struggling. What should I do?
Maintaining a healthy support
group is not easy. It takes work and commitment. However,
we've designed our Support Group
Development Manual to deal with many of these issues. In
addition, we're always available to meet with your group or its
leadership to evaluate what needs to be done. Give us a call.
