Family Leadership Academy

In recent years, services for children and youth with emotional and behavioral health needs has moved rapidly toward a team-based approach that seeks to include the family.

This desire for expanded family input reaches beyond the individual family level.  Families are also needed to give input in their communities as providers and consumers collaborate to provide a full spectrum of services.  Finally, families are desperately needed at the state level to voice their needs to legislators and agency leaders to ensure that all children and youth across the state will receive the best services possible.

The Family Leadership Academy teaches family members and caregivers the skills they need to share their voice with confidence.

Four Resources in One

  1. A Participant's Manual

This participant's manual provides six interactive sessions that walk the learner through a logical learning sequence.

Take a look at the Table of Contents

  • Orientation to Leadership
  • Telling Your Story
  • Family Voice
  • Understanding Financial Data
  • Meeting Basics
  • Family Involvement in Advocacy
  1. A Facilitator's Guide

The course is designed for knowledgeable community experts to be enlisted to lead the different sessions.  The facilitator's guide provides detailed teaching helps for those who lead the sessions.  Facilitator's are given specific ideas to engage participant's in interactive learning.

  1. A Coordinator's Guide

Coordinators are those specially trained to organize Leadership Academies in their community.  The Oklahoma Federation of Family staff periodically hold training sessions to prepare coordinators for the important task of organizing academies in their area.

  1. A Resource CD

Academy coordinators are provided a CD containing all the sessions, facilitation helps, worksheets, and coordinator's forms.  This handy CD makes it easy for coordinators to make copies, attach resources to emails, and print out forms.
