Federation of Families Local Chapters

The support groups in Oklahoma that have become official Federation of Families chapters have a unique relationship with the Federation of Families national organization and the Oklahoma Federation of Families state organization.  It is our desire that every support group associated with Systems of Care sites in Oklahoma attain this status.

Federation of Families groups are specifically designed for parents and caregivers of children with complex behavioral and emotional needs.  These parents need a place to share their experiences, find resources, and receive mutual support to continue the important work of raising their children.

Benefits for Chapters

  • Chapters receive Federation mailings, invitations to, and opportunities to present at Federation events.

  • Chapters have an opportunity to receive resources, technical support, and services from the Federation national organization and the state organization.

  • New chapters receive a one-time $250 allowance from the Oklahoma Federation of Families to help get your organization started.

  • Chapters may include the name "Federation of Families" in the title of their organization if they desire.

If I live in an area that doesn't currently have a Federation of Families Support Group what should I do?

We are continually working with communities to develop support groups.  Currently, we are working with more than a dozen communities in Oklahoma to develop and strengthen their groups.  Give us a call and we'll let you know where the closest group is to where you live.

What must my group do to become a Federation of Families chapter?

You can start by contacting us.  One of our representatives will come out to one of your group meetings to talk about the benefits and responsibilities of a chapter.

To become a local Federation chapter, the paperwork is simple and can be completed on the spot.

The national Federation organization, however, has specific standards chapters must meet.  These standards include such things as developing a mission statement, agreeing on statements of philosophy, and development of a board.  It's a process designed to give your organization clarity and identity.

A group can become a local Federation of Families chapter without pursuing the national status.  However, if your group wants to become a nationally recognized group, the Oklahoma Federation of Families organization is here to help you through the process.

Contact us for full details.
