Our Vision

The Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children's Mental Health seeks to end the isolation and stigma associated with emotional, behavioral or mental disorders in children by empowering their families and caregivers to advocate for the removal of barriers to effective treatment and support.


Our Mission

The Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children's Mental Health provides education, information and support to families and caregivers of children and youth with emotional, behavioral or other mental health related issues.

Our Staff

The staff members of the Oklahoma Federation of Families have multiple years of experience working with non-profit organizations.  In addition, each staff person has experienced emotional and behavioral struggles within their own family and understand the important role the family voice plays in transforming systems.

Susan Boehrer

Susan Boehrer is the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children’s Mental Health.  Ms. Boehrer serves by Governor’s appointment to the Partnership for Children’s Behavioral Health and the Governor’s Transformation Advisory Board.  She is Co-Chair for the Oklahoma Systems of Care State Team and serves on the Behavioral Health Development Team.  Ms. Boehrer is a state-wide trainer for Oklahoma Systems of Care and trains nationally for VROON VanDenBerg, LLP.  Susan graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies.  She represented the state of Oklahoma as Mrs. Oklahoma in 1999 and has spoken at numerous conferences, trainings and panels.  Susan and her husband, Terry, are the parents of two adopted children with complex behavioral health needs and are volunteer parents for other teens.

Jeff Tallent

Jeff Tallent is Executive Director of the Evolution Foundation, a non-profit organization he and his wife founded to develop programs to provide advocacy and support for recovery based programs for people with disorders related to mental illness.  The Evolution Foundation has contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to set up family support groups and provide technical assistance to all of the Systems of Care sites in Oklahoma through the Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children’s Mental Health. The Tallent’s interest in the plight of people with mental illness became a passion several years ago when a close family member was diagnosed with a severe mental illness.  Mr. Tallent’s work experience includes service as the Executive Director of NAMI, Oklahoma; Executive Director of the National Kidney Foundation of Oklahoma; Vice President, Campaign, United Way of Central Oklahoma; and Executive Director of Lake County, Illinois.  Mr. Tallent holds a Masters Degree in Psychological Counseling from Missouri State University.

 Joey Clifton

Joey Clifton is a consultant for the Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children’s Mental Health.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Religious Education, and a Doctorate Degree in Education.  Dr. Clifton has over twenty years experience as the staff educator and administrator of large churches. He has taught bachelor and masters level courses in educational psychology, leadership, administration, and adult education at the University of Indiana, Southeast, and the Memphis Theological Seminary.  Joey is also the author of several curriculum pieces for adult learners.  He and his wife, Jennie, are the parents of two adopted children one of whom has complex behavioral health needs.
